The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, “Whoever forgetfully eats or drinks should not break his fast (1), for indeed, it is sustenance that God has provided for him.” (2) Footnotes (1) No matter how much a person eats or drinks inadvertently while fasting, once the fast is remembered, eating and drinking should cease immediately and the fast should be completed normally. (2) The majority of scholars have taken this hadīth to mean that there is no expiation for this act of forgetfulness and no need to make up for that day.
