Sunan at-Tirmithiy

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Shall I guide you to means by which God erases sins and raises [you] levels [in Paradise]?" The Companions said, "Indeed, Messenger of God." He said, "Perfecting ablution despite hardships (1), frequent visits to mosques, and longing for prayer after prayer; for these are means of self-restraint (2)."
(1) i.e. the scarcity of water, difficulty in obtaining it, cold weather, or illness, etc. (2) They tie a believer to obedience and restrain him from vice.
