The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, sent an expedition of many men. He asked each of them to recite what they know of the Qur'ān, until he came to one of the youngest men among them and asked, "What have you memorized, so-and-so?" He said, "I have memorized this and that and the chapter of al-Baqarah." He asked, "Have you memorized the chapter of al-Baqarah?" The man said, "Yes." He said, "Then go, you are their commander." One of the eminent men among them said, "By God, Messenger of God, nothing has prevented me from learning the chapter of al-Baqarah except fearing that I would not be able to recite it in the voluntary night prayer." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Learn the Qur'ān, recite it and act upon it, for indeed the parable of the Qur'ān for the one who learns it, recites it and acts upon it, is that of a pouch filled with musk whose scent fills the air around it. And the parable of the one who learns it then sleeps while it is in his heart, is that of a pouch containing musk that is tightly shut.'"
