Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب البر والصلة باب ما جاء فى شفقة المسلم على المسلم
حَدَّثَنِى أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مِرْآةُ أَخِيهِ فَإِنْ رَأَى بِهِ أَذًى فَلْيُمِطْهُ عَنْهُ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى وَيَحْيَى بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ضَعَّفَهُ شُعْبَةُ. قَالَ وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ.
The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Indeed, each of you is a mirror to his (1) brother; so if you see in him that which is harmful (2), you should remove it (3)."
(1) Masculine pronouns are generally used in Arabic as a means for referring to both men and women when the meaning is left general and is not otherwise specified. (2) i.e. faults or flaws harmful to himself or to others. (3) Either by telling him about it discretely, or by praying for him.
