Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب الأحكام باب ما جاء فيمن يكسر له الشىء ما يحكم له من مال الكاسر
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِىُّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِىِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ أَهْدَتْ بَعْضُ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِىِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى النَّبِىِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم طَعَامًا فِى قَصْعَةٍ فَضَرَبَتْ عَائِشَةُ الْقَصْعَةَ بِيَدِهَا فَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِىُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم طَعَامٌ بِطَعَامٍ وَإِنَاءٌ بِإِنَاءٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
One of the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, sent him a gift of food in a large bowl. 'Ā'ishah struck it with her hand, spilling its contents. So the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Food for food, and vessel for vessel." (1)
(1): i.e. the one who destroys something, is liable to replace it with the like.
