ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Indeed, God does not accept the prayer of someone who incurs a minor ritual impurity (1) until he (2) performs ablution". Footnote: 1) A state which requires a new ablution in order to pray. 2) Masculine pronouns are generally used in Arabic as a means for referring to both men and women when the meaning is left general and is not otherwise specified. ”

Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب الرضاع باب ما جاء فى المرأة تعتق ولها زوج

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِىُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ زَوْجُ بَرِيرَةَ عَبْدًا فَخَيَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَاخْتَارَتْ نَفْسَهَا وَلَوْ كَانَ حُرًّا لَمْ يُخَيِّرْهَا.
Barīrah's husband was a bondsman [at the time she was freed], so the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, gave her the choice [to either remain with him or be separated]. She opted to be single. Had he been a free man, he would not have given her that choice. (1) Footnotes: (1): This last sentence was not said by 'Ā'ishah, but rather by 'Urwah, one of the narrators in the chain of transmission. Click on ḥadīth to read more
