ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, performed pilgrimage (1) thrice: twice before the hijrah (2) and once - together with an ‘umrah (3) - after it. He herded sixty-three camels, and ‘Alī [Ibn-Abī-Ṭālib] came from Yemen with the rest [of the hundred] (4). Among them was a camel for Abū-Jahl having a silver ring in its nose. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, slaughtered them and ordered that a piece of meat be taken from each camel. Those pieces were cooked, and he drank from their broth. Footnotes (1): (Ḥajj) The pilgrimage to Makkah during the first half of the month of Thul-Ḥijjah, which is the fifth pillar of Islam. (2): The flight from Makkah to Madīnah. (3): A voluntary short ritual visit to the Sanctified Mosque in Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year. (4): Although one seventh of a camel is considered a sufficient offering for one pilgrim, the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, sacrificed a hundred camels during his pilgrimage to feed the poor and the needy seeking God’s pleasure. ”

Sunan at-Tirmithiy

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "The Black Stone [1] descended from Paradise whiter than milk; the sins of the children of Adam then blackened it." Footnotes: [1] One of the stones comprising the southern corner of the Ka'bah. It marks the point at which people should start and end their circumambulation of the Ka'bah. It is of a special value to Muslims, as it is believed to have fallen from Heaven in the time of Adam and Eve. Click on ḥadīth to read more
