MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "[Both] the one performing cupping (1), and the one on whom it is performed, have broken their fast (2)." Footnotes: (1) An ancient treatment in which evacuated glass cups are applied to intact or scarified skin in order to draw blood toward or through the surface. (2) There are three interpretations of this hadīth: a- Cupping breaks the fast of both parties involved in it. b- Cupping is highly undesirable as it nullifies the reward of people involved in it. c- Based on an authentic hadīth reported by al-Bukhārī, involvement in cupping puts a person at risk of breaking his/her fast for different reasons having to do with the specifics of the procedure. ”

Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب الدعوات باب منه [ اللهم باسمك أموت وأحيا ]

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُجَالِدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ رِبْعِىٍّ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ رضى الله عنهما أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا. وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى أَحْيَا نَفْسِى بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَهَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

When the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, wanted to go to sleep, he would say, "O God, in your name I die and live."
