MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Whoever says, 'There is no God but Allāh (1), alone. He has no partner. To Him belongs the dominion, and all praise is due to Him. He gives life and He takes life, and He is over all things competent' a hundred times a day earns the reward of freeing ten slaves (2), a hundred good deeds are recorded for him (3), a hundred evil deeds are erased from his record and it will protect him from Satan throughout that day until the evening, and no one comes with a better deed, but he who has done more." Footnotes: (1) Allāh is the Arabic name for the One and Only God, the same God shared by all monotheistic faiths (the name Allāh is often used by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews). The name Allāh encompasses all the divine names and attributes of the Lord of the worlds, and hence has vast scopes of meaning. It is for this reason that Muslims consider it unique. Unlike the word 'God', Allāh in Arabic has no inflections of gender or number. (2) Slavery existed throughout the known world at the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him. Islām encouraged freeing slaves and gave them certain rights as members of the household. (3) Masculine pronouns are generally used in Arabic as a means for referring to both men and women when the meaning is left general and is not otherwise specified. ”

Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب الصوم باب ما جاء فى التشديد فى الغيبة للصائم

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِى ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِىِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ مَنْ لَمْ يَدَعْ قَوْلَ الزُّورِ وَالْعَمَلَ بِهِ فَلَيْسَ لِلَّهِ حَاجَةٌ بِأَنْ يَدَعَ طَعَامَهُ وَشَرَابَهُ. قَالَ وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Whoever does not abstain from falsehood in speech (1) and action (2) [while fasting], then God is in no need that he abstains from food and drink (3)." Footnotes: (1) This includes lying, false accusation, cursing, swearing, and similar forms of speech. (2) All evil deeds. (3) God, Almighty and Sublime is He, does not need anything from anyone.
