MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "The example of those who uphold the limits set by God (2) and those who are indifferent to them, is like a people who randomly divide a ship at sail. Some get the upper deck, others get the lower deck. The dwellers of the lower deck ascend to get water splattering the dwellers of the upper deck. Thus the latter say, 'We will not allow you to come up lest you harm us.' So the dwellers of the lower deck say, 'Then, we will bore a hole in the bottom of the ship to get water to drink.' If the dwellers of the upper deck restrain them by preventing them from doing so, they will all survive, but if they don't, they will all drown." (1) By adhering to them him/herself, and promoting good and warding off evil or harm. (2) (Ḥudūd) The boundaries of acceptable behaviour and the penal code for breaching these bounaries by committing major sins (like theft and fornication). These boundaries have been set by God in the Islamic law (Sharī’ah) that governs all aspects of life. ”

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْكُوفِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍعَنْ شَبِيبِ بْنِ بِشْرٍعَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ أَتَى النَّبِىَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَجُلٌ يَسْتَحْمِلُهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ عِنْدَهُ مَا يَتَحَمَّلُهُ فَدَلَّهُ عَلَى آخَرَ فَحَمَلَهُ. فَأَتَى النَّبِىَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الدَّالَّ عَلَى الْخَيْرِ كَفَاعِلِهِ. وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِى مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِىِّ وَبُرَيْدَةَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم.

A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, asking for a mount. The Prophet could not find him a mount, so he guided him to someone else who provided him with it. The man came back to the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and informed him of that. Thereupon the Prophet said, "Indeed, the one who guides to good is equally rewarded as the one who does it." Click on ḥadīth to read more

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِىَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِى مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِىِّ أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَتَى النَّبِىَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَسْتَحْمِلُهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ قَدْ أُبْدِعَ بِى. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ائْتِ فُلاَنًا. فَأَتَاهُ فَحَمَلَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَنْ دَلَّ عَلَى خَيْرٍ فَلَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ فَاعِلِهِ أَوْ قَالَ عَامِلِهِ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَأَبُو عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِىُّ اسْمُهُ سَعْدُ بْنُ إِيَاسٍ وَأَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِىُّ اسْمُهُ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو.

A man went to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, and asked him to provide him with a mount. He said, “My mount has stopped from exhaustion.” The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, “Go to so and so.” He went to that man who gave him a mount. Then, the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, “Whoever guides [another] to good, will have the same reward as the person who does it”, or he said, “…practices it.” Click on ḥadīth to read more
