ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, prohibited celibacy (1). (2) Footnotes: (1) Taking vows of celibacy. (2) In another narration Zayd added that Qatāda recited, "And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants..." (13 [ar-Ra'd]: 38).'" ”

Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب البر والصلة باب ما جاء فى الغيبة

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْغِيبَةُ قَالَ ذِكْرُكَ أَخَاكَ بِمَا يَكْرَهُ. قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ مَا أَقُولُ قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ مَا تَقُولُ فَقَدِ اغْتَبْتَهُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ مَا تَقُولُ فَقَدْ بَهَتَّهُ. قَالَ وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِى بَرْزَةَ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
It was asked, "Messenger of God, what is backbiting?" He replied,"Mentioning your brother in a way he dislikes." The questioner then asked, "What if he is as I say?" He replied, "If he is as you say, then you have backbitten him; if he is not, then you have slandered him." Click on ḥadīth to read more
