Sunan at-Tirmithiy كتاب الصلاة باب ما جاء فى إقامة الصفوف

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَخْزُومِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنْ أَبِى الأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ فَلاَ يَمْسَحِ الْحَصَى فَإِنَّ الرَّحْمَةَ تُوَاجِهُهُ. قَالَ وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ مُعَيْقِيبٍ وَعَلِىِّ بْنِ أَبِى طَالِبٍ وَحُذَيْفَةَ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ أَبِى ذَرٍّ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ. وَقَدْ رُوِىَ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ كَرِهَ الْمَسْحَ فِى الصَّلاَةِ وَقَالَ إِنْ كُنْتَ لاَ بُدَّ فَاعِلاً فَمَرَّةً وَاحِدَة. كَأَنَّهُ رُوِىَ عَنْهُ رُخْصَةٌ فِى الْمَرَّةِ الْوَاحِدَةِ. وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "When one of you stands in prayer, he should not smooth away pebbles [on the ground], for indeed, he is in the presence of mercy."[1] Footnotes: [1] i.e. During prayer, any movement that is not part of the prayer distracts from one's focus on worshipping God.
