MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ A man from Banū Khudrah and a man from Banū 'Amr Ibn-Awf disagreed about the mosque that was founded on piety (1). The first said, "It is the Mosque of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him." The other said, "It is the Mosque of Qubā'." So they went to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him for clarification. He said, "This is it" meaning his mosque, "and in that one (the Mosque of Qubā') there is abundant good." Footnotes: (1): The mosque mentioned in the Qur'ānic verse, "Then is one who laid the foundation of his building on righteousness [with fear] from Allah and [seeking] His approval better or one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Hell? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people". (9 [at-Tawbah]:109) ”

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِى نُعَيْمٍ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ مَنْ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً لَمْ يَقْرَأْ فِيهَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ وَرَاءَ الإِمَامِ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Jābir Ibn-'Abdullāh said, "Whoever prays a unit of prayer without reciting the cornerstone of the Qur'ān (1) has not prayed, unless he is praying behind the Imām."
