ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ ‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Umar said, "Al-Baydā' (1); they lie about it and about the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him (2). By God, the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, did not recite the Pilgrimage Exaltation (3) except at the mosque near the tree (4)." Footnotes: (1) Al-Baydā' is an area outside Madīnah near Thū-Ḥulayfah. (2) ‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Umar maintained that those who claimed that the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, began his consecration (the state of sanctity for the rituals of pilgrimage) at al-Baydā' were lying. (3) (at-Talbiyah) A special exaltation that is recited during the Pilgrimage asserting the pilgrims' conviction that they intend to perform the pilgrimage only in God's way, purifying themselves and leaving behind their worldly interests. This represents the pilgrim's entrance into the state of consecration. (4) The Mosque of Thū-Ḥulayfah. When travelling from Madīnah to Makkah, one comes across the Mosque of Thū-Ḥulayfah before al-Baydā'. ”
