'Ā'ishah said, "The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, had two garments made of a thick rough fabric, that would become heavy after he had sat and sweat in them. When some fabric came from the Levant to a Jewish merchant, I suggested, 'Would you send someone to purchase two garments from him, and pay him whenever you can afford to.' So he sent someone to the Jewish merchant, who said, 'I know what he wants! He wants to swindle me out of my money!" The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, 'He lied. Indeed, he knows that I am among the most mindful of God and the most careful to return a trust.'" Click on ḥadīth to read more

Anas said, "I went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, carrying an invitation to some barley bread and flavored oil, for he had pawned his shield with a Jew for twenty ṣā' (1) of food, which he took to his family and I had heard him say once, 'There has not been a night when there was a ṣā' of dates or a ṣā' of grain in the household of Muḥammad,' peace and blessings of God be upon him. And, he had nine wives, at the time (2)." Footnotes: (1) A ṣā' is a dry measure approximately equivalent to 2600 grams. (2) This is an indication that the Prophet was not rich and hardly had enough food let alone excess food in his household. Click on ḥadīth to read more
